  • Flickr Pics are going up!

    May 13th, 2008

    DSC_0352

Awesome, awesome trip everyone. One for the record books. I miss the islands and I miss everyone already.

To help share the memories, we are dumping everyone’s pictures in one place on a shared boattrip3000 flickr account. Feel free to post as many as you want to your own flickr, or to facebook etc. but be sure to upload the whole set (well almost the whole set, some things that happen on the bvi memory card should stay on the bvi memory card. Post as you feel appropriate).

I am going to post all of my decent pictures to the boattripp3000 account, and a smaller number of the best ones to my own flickr account and/or to facebook.

The good news is that flickr has been improved since the last trip so the site is way better organized. There’s a new thing called “collections” so we’ve been able to group everyones photos and sets according to the right boat trip.

Here’s all of boattrip 3000’s collections.

Here’s the set for this year’s trip. Notice that within the collection the pics are organized by sets of who took them.

    Posting Instructions:

    1. go to flickr.com
    2. log in as user: boattrip3000 password: c*****t [a popular boat trip activity, two words, 7 letters, no space, you know what it is]
    3. Upload your pics, the flickr uploadr tool is handy for this
    4. While or after uploading, create a new set under your name and add your pics to this set
    5. By default, I would say make pictures of pretty boats and scenery public. If there’s any even slightly dubiously/wonderfully scandalous photos of anyone other than yourself, please make these photos private or “friends only” by default. Privacy permissions can be set when uploading or changed afterwards at any time as long as you are logged in as boattripp3000.
    6. Using the Organizr tool, drag your set into the Boat Trip 08 Photo Collection (optionally, if you can’t figure it out, someone else can do this step for you)
    7. The Organizr tool is also handy for editing a whole lot of photos at once, like adding to sets, changing privacy permissions, adding tags etc. with a few number of mouse clicks.
    8. That’s it! enjoy!

Because everyone shares the password to the account, feel free to go through and add comments, tags, notes to any of the pics. If there’s any pics of you that you would rather not be fully public, you can also change the permissions on any pic from “public” to “private” or “friends only” (or delete it entirely).

note: Only people who were on a boattrip have been added as friends of the boattrip3000 account.

    Bring on the Alpaca, Coad

    April 30th, 2008

    Alpaca. That's how I roll.

In keeping with the Super Hero theme party:

On a lonely planet spinning its way to damnation among the fear and dispair of a broken human race, who is here to fight for all that is good and pure and gets you hammered for under $3 a pop?  Yes, it is the surprising adventures of the boat trip crew, as they hurtle through a rum punch daze determined to mend the ailing world and perhaps hook up with some random local fishermen along the way.  What will happen the latest installment of this epic journey of hungover enlightenment?  Will our nemesis once again sabotage the fresh water tanks leading to general saltiness and grainy discomfort?  Will an out of control barbeque light the back of the boat on fire (um, also again)?  Find out this Friday when the mayham and terror begin in earnest and all that is left to do is pound Red Stripe, chug Yucca, and do our goddamnest to right all that is wrong, both philosophically and in actuality, with existence.

    sarong

    Things to bring:

    • Not much! this is important. BRING CARRY ON LUGGAGE ONLY. The boat is small, bulky crap will not fit. Checked bags will make you miss connecting flights, not recommended.
    • It’s HOT down there, you don’t need a lot of clothing. forecast note the coolest night time temperature is 76F / 24C
    • Famously, on tuesdays ladies may require only half as much clothing
    • Sunscreen: We’ll go through a LOT of it. unfortunately due to the FAA’s ongoing war on moisture and toiletries, we are limited to how much we can bring. Bring a little bottle in your zip lock and maybe an extra bottle deep in the bag “by accident”. sometimes these slip through.
    • Sarong: A handy garment and remember, in the BVI, dudes can wear them too. Its not a skirt, it’s the hawaiian shirt of togas.
    • Ipods, CDs, music, iPod FM adapters, iPod wall chargers - bring all of this stuff. Advice: think waterproofing tho - do not jump in the ocean with you iPod.
    • Superhero costume
    • A good book
    • A big hat to keep the sun off
    • Spending money, there will be a few nights and meals ashore. And the ferry from St Thomas if you are landing there will cost some cash too 30-40 each way

    Don’t bring

    • linnens and towels - these are provided

Experienced Boat trippers, what else can you add to the list?

    Annnnd the theme is….

Super Heros! get you tighty tights on, pick your favourite hero or invent your own and go nuts. Costumes consisting entirely of body-paint optional. :)

    Here it is…

    April 18th, 2008

Here is the debaucherous tune you have all been waiting for. I must confess a number of us were not 100% sober while recording this song.  If others wish to add guest vocals, it can still be arranged…Rock Out

Official and Official Official BT Theme Songs

    April 17th, 2008

Every boat trip seems to have a theme song, obviously the ROW-Y-CO song is the OFFICIAL OFFICIAL Boat Trip Theme song which we have Graeme to thank for… but no one can argue the following were the most frequently played songs on the IPOD during these trips…
BT04: Naughty Villain by Elf Power (see Tom’s “Downloads for close ties for second most played…
    BT06: Pussy by Brazilian Girls
What will it be this year or should we play it by “ear” when we get there, whatever seems to fit the mood? Mike, don’t try to mention “Heat of the Moment” by Asia again

What Party theme do you guys want?

    Update from Capt Bakes

    March 18th, 2008

    O.K Party People!

The money is on the table.

    The days are getting longer.

We are all masters of the docking game

And most importantly the boat trip is 6 weeks away.

Li and I have been busy working on the in and outs, the what have yous of the trip.

Its now time to deal with the one an only BT08 BVIx2 Theme Party.

There are also a couple of options.

    1. We can do Anaguada again. There is a 100% chance they will remember us which would be super funny.

    2. We do Foxys, home of one of the largest new years eve parties same beach feel just a few more people around. Check out the website for details and live web cam.

    3. We do two parties

We now need to generate some ideas.

    My ideas:

Party like a rock star, dress as your favorite rocker (music 70’ 80’ 90’s power ballads)

    Creative Super heroes and Villains

    Lets talk it up.

    Americanadian Idol (songwriter edition)

    March 3rd, 2008

the band rocks outI can only imagine the dearest, most tightly-held dream for all of you is the chance to be a bona fide, dyed-in-the-wool songwriter!  Undoubtedly, your heroes include such artistes as the incomparable Gloria Estefan, David Foster or “Mutt” Lange.  Well, dear reader, your time has come!  Boattrip3000 is in need of your witty wordsmithing to complete the lyrics to this soon-to-be classic take on the 12-bar-blues.  The song is titled “Rock Out With Your Cock Out” and the first verse goes as follows:

Rock out with your cock out,
Rock out with your cock out
Rock out with your cock out
Rock out with your cock out
    Roooooock with your cock.

While it is not quite Shakespearean, one must admit it does have a certain, as the French say, “I don’t know what.” Please find below a current listing of additional verses. Suggestions are welcome in the comments.

Cruise/flooze out with your booze out
Sail out with your tail out
Lube out with your boob out
Hang out with your wang out
Tack out with your rack out
Pose out with your hose out
Babe out with your labe out
Back out with your sack out
Swim out with your quim out
Wake up with your snake up
Pass out with your ass out
Funk out with your junk out

And, if we can agree that one should be able to “tits out” in the verbular sense, then I propose “tits out with your bits out” as a gender-inclusive verse.

Ooohkay time to fix this place up a little

So it is getting to that time of year where I hate the winter, feel sad it is never going to end, and it does not help I spend every 2nd to 3rd night in the hospital… I am getting so excited for this trip! Just the thought of a nice, cold, 3-man-or-woman-SHOT-SKI at the Willy T makes all this worth it! Can we get some BT08 emails going so I have something to do at work please!! (the patients are all fine by the way…tucked ‘em all in before I wrote this).

We may need to get that best-of BTs picture email circulating again. Can we discuss theme party as well? I need to start planning…. Should we give out prizes this year for best costume?

hope everyone is well and as excited as I am!

    xoxo Christina

PS… why cant we post comments on the BT website?

So sorry everyone this boattrip site just hasn’t been getting enough love. Time to fix that up. Progress so far:

    • I’ve started adding people as authors to the blog so everyone can make posts. Why we didn’t do this 4 years ago? i dunno. I’ll be adding people as I get to it, but poke me if you are wanting to post something.
    • So far Christina, Sarah and Baker I’ve emailed you log in credetials more to come
    • I’ve upgraded to the latest version of Wordpress which should fix a few bugs
    • I upgraded the spam filter to one that actually works, so now anyone can leave a comment on a post without a painful registration process (yay)
    • Our awesome header graphic with Mike as a tiny spec waving from the high seas has disappeared. I’m trying to track down where that went.
    • More info coming on flights and budgets

So what are you looking forward to most about boat trip?

    October 11th, 2007

    Quotes from the crew:

    1. Floating around with a noodle and a cocktail. 2. Actually earning a T-shirt at the Willy-T, and shot-ski’s at the Willy T. 3. Graeme coming again and adding verses to the Rock Out Song 4. Bunking with MoFO who puts on her bathing suit the night before prophylactically for the next day. 5. Mike’s sunburned divet. 6. Having a legit excuse to say AAAARRRRGH on a daily basis. xo Christina

Looking forward to some good rum soked sailing and racing.

Getting back to hot, single-hull action. For serious.

Getting some more of that BVI cane sugar rum! -capt tom

Flip out with my tip out. -D

Putting away dozens of cases of vodka, rum and tequila, yet never getting a hangover. Smiling on-stop for 10 days. Sarah

    American Flight Prices

    September 26th, 2007

    Wed Sep 26 17:17:43 2007

These ones are all over the map. Your best bet is to bide your time and look at various dates/airlines to get the right price. Either way though, you can’t go to far wrong. You bastards guys get the cheap flights.

    Canadian Flight Details (Updated)

    September 25th, 2007

Wed Sep 26 16:51:23 2007Somewhat complicating for us Canadians, the Virgin Islands is not a place our national Airline has even heard of. So your best bet if you are a Star Aliance Aeroplan points junkie is to try and book on USAirways or United, otherwise a connecting AA or other airline will also work.

At this moment, flight costs YYZ to STT are looking like

    • >$630-675 USAirways, Continental, Delta
$1250 on United which must be full fare (youch)
    • EIS is closer to the boat (no 30min ferry from the US island required) but for the moment, requires extra connecting, a few more hours and $200 or so more cost. So save that option for if you are getting desperate.I’d recommend Kayak.com for handily filtering a zillion of airline options for you.

UPDATE: I’ve posted the historical chart (thanks Kayak) for the fares from YYZ to STT. Looks like they are steadily increasing as time goes on (boo). You could gamble on there being a seat sale sometime later on, or just snap up a ticket now. It looks like the cheapest flight you could ever expect is $595 (which is still available if you wanted to fly down on thursday, but you’d have to find yourself somewhere to stay either on St Thomas or Beef Island BVI). In theory you can also get there with 40k points through call Aeroplan, you can’t book it online with aeroplan.com

      WHAT TO BOOK:

      1. Buy a flight that arrives early-mid afternoon from YYZ->STT on Friday (1:30 or 2:00pm there are flights). Then we’ll take a ferry (hopefully together) over to the British BVI Beef Island to meet up with the boat.
      2. option b. If you need to be at work on Friday, take the saturday flight instead at the same time (1:30-2:30pm options). We’ll be pushing off the dock on Saturday morning by noon, so you’ll have to take a ferry + taxi to Cane Garden Bay to meet us at our first stop on Saturday Evening, which is just in another bay on Beef Island BVI.

      [Maps of islands] enjoy!

Updates from Capt’ Baker and flight details

    September 25th, 2007

    at the airport

I just wanted to update you guys on a couple of developments.

Tom and I have put down the deposit on two very new 50 foot sunsail boats. Yeehaww we are off to the races!

Lianne and I have started the air line ticket process and there are a couple of choices. Im sure Tom has lots to add for the Canadian folks

Us old married folks used some frequent flyer miles and are Flying to St Thomas on Friday May 2nd

AA Flight 769 6:40am JFK to San Juan
AA Flight 5162 11:35 San Juan (SJU) to St Thomas (STT)

Then getting the Ferry to Tortola they leave every couple of hours and take about an hour to get there. We should be at the boats around 4ish.

On the way home Sunday May 11th we are looking at a 2:30ish ferry from Tortola to St Thomas

AA flight 5137 6:50pm St Thomas to SJU
AA flight 1742 8:35pm SJU to JFK getting in at 12:25am

Folks are welcome to tag along. Adding the ferry adds a couple of extra steps but I think flights are a little cheaper. For the quick and dirty way you can go round trip from NYC to Beef Island Tortola (IES I think) for like $500 and if you are lucky there might be a direct flight or two out there.

Since the boat is not leaving the dock Friday night there is no rush to get down there. And on the way home the boats needs to be in at 12:00 and it takes an hour or so to get to the airport.

Let me know what you are thinking before you book.

    More into to come.
